Conflux Virtual Mini-Con Sunday 3oth August 2009

This year’s Conflux Virtual Mini-Con will be held on Sunday 3oth August 2009.  The program (like most programs it is a moving feast – so note that things might change) is:

Story Competition closes end of July

Time is running out to enter this year’s short story competition.

Stories must be on the theme of the convention – “Secrets”.  They must be a maximum of 2000 words and contain a speculative element. Otherwise, the sky is the limit. Stories that fail in any of these elements will be judged ineligible.

Entries will only be accepted April 1 to July 31, 2009. Stories may be emailed to storycomp@conflux.org.au

You must be a Conflux 6 member to enter, entry after membership is free. The winner will be chosen by a panel of three authors.

The winning story will be edited by Conflux GoH Jim Minz for publication in the Convention Magazine. So here is your opportunity to work with an experienced editor!

Two runners-up will also appear in the Convention magazine. All winners will receive a surprise package of books and a certificate.

Conflux 6 – Southern Gothic

Canberra – October 2009 – Conflux is on again for lovers of horror, fantasy and sf.

Conflux 6 is digging up Secrets from many times and places, with a particular fondness for secrets of the Louisiana bayous.

There is a flavoursome bridging of three time periods in thee centuries. How did this happen? Did someone leave the tardis on, or is it just ghosts dancing the timewarp again in their tatty fishnet stockings

The 1940s jazz almost covers the blood curdling howls, while you sip your excellent vintage cocktail.  Gorgeous costumes and good conversation distract you from those misty glimpses of mercifully forgotten  … secret things.

At the stately dinner, where you’ll be served fine 1880s French Louisianna cuisine, you’ll hear whispers of scandals.

Shh! We know there are pirates lurking in the Contraband Bayou – but what other secrets does the bayou hold? What was that thing that went bump in the night? And who was that body someone found last week, the one draped in Spanish moss? Looks like someone must have bled it right out though the neck.

Conflux and after

I didn’t make it to Conflux http://www.conflux.org.au/ this year.  Instead I  foolishly broke my arm.

I designed and edited all the progress reports and the con book.  They’re snazzy in a 1920s, fannish way and I’ve heard they went down well with con goers.
