Love and death are the poles of my existence
I walk a tightrope connecting them
Waiving a jaunty umbrella
Hoping my safety net is strong
I am terrified when one pole wobbles
Reminding me of giddy heights
And thin ropes
And the sad knowledge that older bones break
I cannot see the faces
Who watch me from the dark audience
Wishing for my safety
Or for the excitement of my fall
It does not deeply concern them
They feel no impact
As they watch from a comfortable distance
Munching their popcorn
As I have watched from a distance
The glide and fall of other performers

And once again, we are reminded, like Rilke (or Galileo) said, that everything falls. I wish you a happy new year and a safe landing.
Thank you, yel, and the same to you. To fall, and rise again triumphant.
