Pain steals my words
Leaves me
Stumble-tongued
Unvoiced
Isolated in the
Mother-dark
Creature-cave
Where my essential beast
Crawls off to hide
And lick its wounds
On accumulating pillows.
Pain steals my energy
Slackens my will
Shortens my temper
Narrows my horizons
To the incessant beat
Of its intrusive presence
The broken wing
Flaps uselessly
After all these weeks
I am still damaged.
Oh God, oh God, oh God
Lord and Lady, powers that be
Whoever!
All you good beings who love me
Help me
Heal me
Make the pain stop
Make it better
Please.
